AUSTERE SUSTAINMENT COURSE

Anchor 1

COURSE OVERVIEW

Austere Sustainment Course (ASC) was developed from our highly successful Extended Austere Provider course.  Understanding the environments that some medical providers operate in, we built this course to bridge tactical, wilderness, and critical care medicine. This 5-day immersive educational experience will prepare students to provide care for prolonged periods of time when the next level of care is days away.

This course allows students to be exposed to equipment, procedures, and mindsets that may not currently flow through to traditional pre-hospital care providers. The course ends in a culmination exercise where students are required to make decisions In real-time, over 24+ hours. Challenging students to make decisions in real-time that have follow-on implications can test them as close to real-life as possible. When finished, students will have both the clinical knowledge and confidence to operate in the most remote environments on earth.

Pre-requisites: EMT-B and currently assigned to a military department with a medical mission set.

Course Delivery: The EAP course is delivered over 5 days. This program does require an extended culmination exercise (CULEX) of 24+ hours on site.
